Living in the Gain

Have you ever set a goal and failed to reach it? I know I have…plenty of times! We set a goal with big ambitions of success, get through a portion of it, experience some kind of derailing distraction, and then don’t reach our goal. In come the feelings of shame, guilt, defeat, but perhaps we end with a resolve to try harder next time!

We almost comedically refer to this process during the time period of new years resolutions. What I would like to introduce to you is a new way of measuring success.

Instead of looking forward to what we haven’t achieved…look backwards to what we have achieved! This is called living in the gain. When you live in the gain, you don’t feel defeated by what you didn’t finish from your goals, which is debilitating. Instead, you celebrate the progress that you made, which is motivating to continue striving towards your goals.

When applied to finances, living in the gain gives you the motivation to play the long game with your savings! It can be discouraging to look at how many years it may take to accomplish your financial goals. But living in the gain gives you the motivation to continue! Every small step becomes fuel to the fire of your motivation!

But, motivation can’t carry you all the way. It will come and go with the ups and downs of life. In those moments, the systems that you build will carry you through! This is where a good financial coach comes into play. If you find yourself lacking some sturdy systems, reach out and let’s connect! I’d love to help you build those through some individual one-one-one coaching!

If any of these thoughts strikes a chord in your heart or makes you think of someone else, please connect with me via email (coachingwithconnor1@gmail.com), through social media, or through my website (themoneymentoring.com).
